Currently, European environmental activists claim that some paper manufacturers haven't produced enough recycled paper, and destruction of forests is still expanding worldwide.
AFP, Nov 20-- Duncan Pollard, the person in charge of European Forest Project carried on by WWF, said: “ For the usage of paper, almost 270,000 trees are flushed into cloacae or dumped as garbage per day worldwide, which is a waste of forest resources.”
Research of WWF, Switzerland , an international environmental protection organization, showed that the five biggest disposable paper manufacturers are Procter and Gamble, SCA, Kimberly Clark, Metsa Tissue and Metsa Tissue [WHY DOES METSA TISSUE APPEAR TWICE?]. Those five manufactures are dominating 70% of the paper market in Europe while most of the products are with low reclaimed fabric content.
A report from WWF stated that due to lack of awareness, some fibre have never been used and disposed as garbage. Pollard said: “Consumers don't really realize that the usage of toilet paper has already threatened the worldwide forest resources.”
It's reported that the total amount of paper traded in Europe is about 8.5 billion euros (10 billion dollars) and amounts to 26% of global sales. Every person in Europe consumed an average of 13 kilograms of paper per year. So far, WWF has already required those paper manufacturers to inform consumers of the fabric content in household paper and advise them to buy the reclaimed paper.
