---- Congratulations from President Hu Jintiao to the forum of the 21st century

The forum of the 21 st century, which was initiated by National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was held on September 5 th , 2005 in Beijing . President Hu Jintiao sent a letter of congratulations to the meeting. Premier Wen Jiabao also attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

In his letter of congratulations, Hu said that realizing continuous development is a great task which has an affect on the future of humanity. This task has now been brought to the attention of people around the world. The theme of the meeting: “Continuous Development--- China and the World” is quite meaningful. China pays a lot of attention to continuous development, explicitly bringing forward this strategy, and sticking to it. We must establish a scientific model with emphasis on humanity and in-depth continuous development. In other words, we should realize continuous development by way of developing productivity, increasing people's welfare and maintaining healthy ecology. In addition, in order to realize the harmony of people, resources, and the environment, we need to establish energy-efficient society in which environmental factors are taken into account. Thus we could further facilitate the harmony of humanity and nature to assure the continuous development of successive generations.

Premier Wen addressed a speech at the opening ceremony. The title was “To Develop in a Scientific Way to Realize Continuous Development”. Wen said that to realize continuous development, the country needs to choose the correct strategy and stick to it. The development of China depends on the world and the development of the world also depends on China . China will adhere to its basic policy of opening to foreign countries.
